Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha receives the Union Minister as focus remains on expanding road infrastructure and accelerating development works across the Union Territory.
Srinagar, June 9: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari arrived in Srinagar on Tuesday on a visit expected to focus on the progress of major infrastructure and connectivity projects across Jammu and Kashmir.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha received the Union Minister upon his arrival in the summer capital and extended a warm welcome. Sharing the development on social media, the Lieutenant Governor expressed pleasure in hosting Gadkari during his visit to the Union Territory.
The visit is being viewed as important in the context of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen transportation networks and improve connectivity in the region. Several flagship projects, including highways, tunnels and strategic road corridors, are likely to figure prominently during discussions and review meetings.
Over the past few years, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant investment in road infrastructure aimed at enhancing inter-regional connectivity, facilitating smoother travel and supporting economic activity. Authorities have emphasized that improved transportation links are essential for boosting tourism, trade and overall development.
Officials are expected to assess the status of ongoing works and explore measures to ensure timely completion of critical projects. The review is also likely to focus on initiatives designed to reduce travel time, improve road safety and provide all-weather connectivity to remote areas.
The Union government has consistently prioritized infrastructure expansion in Jammu and Kashmir, viewing it as a key driver of growth and regional integration. With multiple projects at various stages of execution, Gadkari’s visit is expected to provide further momentum to the development agenda in the Union Territory.
The visit comes at a time when efforts are underway to modernize the road network and strengthen connectivity between major urban centres and far-flung districts, creating new opportunities for economic progress and public convenience.
