Haryana CM Alleges Congress, INDIA Bloc Practice Politics Contrary to Their Claims

Haryana, July 31 : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress and other INDIA bloc parties, accusing them of practising politics that differs significantly from the image they project before the public. Addressing reporters after the concluding ceremony of the 77th state level Van Mahotsav in Karnal, Saini alleged that opposition parties make grand promises but fail to match them with action.

Using the Hindi proverb, “Hathi ke dant dikhane ke aur, khaane ke aur,” Saini said it accurately reflects the functioning of the Congress and its allies. According to him, their public statements and political conduct are often at odds, creating a gap between what they promise and what they deliver.

The chief minister also turned his attention to the alleged examination-related controversies in Punjab, criticising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the issue. He described the situation as unfortunate and questioned the silence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as well as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi despite growing concerns among students.

Saini claimed that many young people in Punjab have taken to the streets demanding accountability, but the state government has failed to respond adequately. He alleged that the administration’s handling of the issue has weakened students’ confidence and raised serious questions about its commitment to protecting their future.

Highlighting the Centre’s response to examination irregularities, Saini said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken decisive steps by introducing a stringent anti-paper leak law in 2024. He added that Parliament has already moved to strengthen the legislation further through amendments that provide tougher punishment for those involved in organised examination fraud.

Referring to past debates on the issue, Saini remarked that concerns over examination leaks had been discussed decades ago during Congress rule but no effective legal framework was introduced at the time. He contrasted this with the BJP-led government’s efforts to tighten the law and improve transparency in the recruitment and examination system.

The Haryana chief minister also recalled an earlier statement by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, claiming that the former Delhi deputy chief minister had once said an education minister should resign if a paper leak occurred under an AAP government. Saini questioned why the party had remained silent despite recent allegations surrounding recruitment examinations in Punjab.

Opposition parties in Punjab have accused the AAP government of multiple examination-related lapses over the past several years, particularly after a cheating racket was uncovered in a pharmacy officer recruitment examination. However, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has consistently denied allegations of any examination paper leak during his tenure, maintaining that the state’s recruitment process remains secure.

Taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Saini alleged that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha continues to make unfounded accusations against the Central government instead of raising constructive issues. He argued that comparing the Congress’ decades in office with the BJP government’s tenure under Prime Minister Modi clearly reflects differences in governance, development and public welfare initiatives.

Looking ahead to the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for early next year, Saini expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge victorious. He claimed that the ruling AAP government had failed to fulfil its electoral promises and said Punjab could witness faster development and improved governance under a BJP administration.

Apart from political issues, the chief minister also highlighted environmental conservation efforts. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, describing it as an important initiative to promote tree plantation and improve environmental sustainability. Saini added that the Haryana government is also implementing several measures aimed at increasing green cover and ensuring cleaner air for future generations.
