Haryana Cop’s Wife Demands FIR Update to Include All Accused and Relevant Charges

Amneet Kumar requests Chandigarh police to amend FIR to include all accused and correct SC/ST Act sections

Chandigarh, Oct 10: A day after the FIR was registered in connection with the alleged suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, his wife, senior bureaucrat Amneet P Kumar, wrote to Chandigarh police raising concerns over “incomplete information” in the FIR. She has urged authorities to amend it to accurately list all accused and include the appropriate sections under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The FIR, registered late Thursday, currently cites abetment of suicide and select provisions of the SC/ST Act, based on a ‘final note’ left by Puran Kumar. The note reportedly names senior officers, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, alleging harassment and maligning that contributed to his decision.

In her letter to Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, Amneet highlighted that the FIR’s accused column is incomplete, merely referring to the “final note,” and requested explicit inclusion of all individuals mentioned. She also flagged “diluted sections” of the SC/ST Act applied in the FIR and demanded they be corrected to reflect proper legal provisions.

Chandigarh police confirmed that the FIR was registered under Section 108 read with 3(5) (abetment of suicide) and 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act, noting that investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, Amneet Kumar has reportedly withheld permission for her husband’s post-mortem until justice is delivered.

Puran Kumar, 52, a 2001-batch IPS officer recently posted as Inspector General of the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Sunaria, Rohtak, was found dead with a gunshot wound at his residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh.
