Health Ministry Intensifies Nationwide Awareness Campaign on Lifestyle Diseases and Preventive Healthcare

Government and medical experts encourage early screening, healthy living and regular medical check ups to tackle rising cases of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

New Delhi, June 30: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has intensified nationwide awareness initiatives aimed at promoting preventive healthcare as India witnesses a steady rise in lifestyle related diseases.

Public health campaigns launched across several states focus on educating citizens about diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and other non-communicable illnesses that account for a significant share of India’s disease burden.

Health officials emphasised that prevention remains one of the most effective strategies to reduce long-term healthcare costs while improving quality of life.

Medical experts participating in awareness programmes encouraged people to undergo routine health screenings, monitor blood pressure and blood sugar levels, maintain healthy body weight and seek timely medical advice.

Doctors explained that many lifestyle diseases develop gradually without noticeable symptoms, making regular medical examinations essential for early diagnosis and treatment.

Hospitals organised free health camps where thousands of citizens received blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, cholesterol testing and dietary counselling.

Nutritionists highlighted the importance of balanced diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins while advising people to reduce excessive consumption of sugar, salt and processed foods.

Fitness experts participating in public awareness events stressed that at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week can substantially reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Mental health professionals also emphasised stress management, quality sleep and emotional well-being as integral components of preventive healthcare.

The awareness campaign encourages schools, workplaces and local communities to organise wellness activities including yoga sessions, fitness challenges and health education workshops.

Healthcare professionals said urbanisation, sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits have contributed to increasing cases of obesity and metabolic disorders among younger age groups.

Experts also recommended avoiding tobacco products, limiting alcohol consumption and maintaining regular medical follow-ups for individuals with family histories of chronic diseases.

Digital health platforms are being utilised to disseminate educational content, provide teleconsultations and remind patients about routine screenings and vaccination schedules.

Public health specialists believe preventive healthcare must become a social movement involving families, educational institutions, employers and local governments.

The campaign also highlights the importance of maternal health, child nutrition, immunisation and elderly care as part of a comprehensive public health strategy.

Officials said improving health literacy can empower citizens to make informed decisions regarding nutrition, exercise, mental health and disease prevention.

Medical researchers noted that investing in preventive healthcare not only improves life expectancy but also reduces pressure on hospitals by preventing complications associated with chronic illnesses.

Health experts concluded that sustained public awareness, stronger primary healthcare systems and greater community participation will be essential for achieving better national health outcomes in the years ahead.
