Heatwave Conditions Intensify Across North India, Health Advisory Issued
Authorities urge citizens to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure as temperatures cross seasonal averages.
NEW DELHI, May 8: Large parts of northern India continued to experience severe heatwave conditions, prompting health advisories from authorities and emergency preparedness measures in several states.
The India Meteorological Department reported temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius in parts of Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Officials warned that dry winds and prolonged exposure to sunlight could increase the risk of dehydration and heatstroke.
Hospitals in major cities reported a rise in patients suffering from fatigue, dizziness and heat-related illnesses. State governments have advised schools to modify outdoor activities and urged construction companies to adjust work schedules during peak afternoon hours.
Power demand also surged sharply as households increased the use of cooling systems. Energy departments are monitoring electricity supply to prevent outages in urban and rural regions.
Experts warned that climate variability could make extreme weather events more frequent, increasing pressure on healthcare systems and urban infrastructure.
