Heavy Security Deployed at Jantar Mantar Ahead of CJP’s Proposed Parliament March

New Delhi, July 20: Security arrangements were significantly strengthened around Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday after reports emerged that the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) intends to organise a march towards Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session. The move comes amid heightened security measures across the national capital to ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings.

A large number of Delhi Police personnel were stationed in and around the protest site from the morning, with officers maintaining constant surveillance to prevent any untoward incident. Barricades and additional security checks were also put in place as authorities prepared for possible demonstrations.

Police Yet to Receive Formal Request

According to official sources, the Cockroach Janata Party has announced its intention to march towards Parliament on Monday. However, the organisation has not yet submitted a formal application seeking permission from the Delhi Police.

Officials indicated that even if a request is filed at the last moment, approval is unlikely due to the stringent security arrangements implemented during Parliament’s Monsoon Session.

Security agencies are maintaining close coordination to monitor developments while ensuring public order in the high-security zone surrounding Parliament House.

Strict Restrictions in the New Delhi District

The Delhi Police have already enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the New Delhi district, replacing the earlier provisions of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

These restrictions prohibit:

Assembly of four or more persons without permission.
Unauthorised protest marches and demonstrations.
Carrying weapons or potentially dangerous objects.
Activities that may disrupt public peace or parliamentary functioning.

Authorities stated that such restrictions are routinely imposed whenever Parliament is in session to safeguard lawmakers, government buildings, and the public.

Monsoon Session Begins on July 20

The 2026 Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on July 20 and continue until August 13, providing nearly four weeks for legislative business and discussions on key national issues.

The session was convened following approval by President Droupadi Murmu on the recommendation of the Union Government.

With both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha meeting during this period, security agencies have increased deployment across central Delhi, particularly around Parliament House, India Gate, and adjoining administrative zones.

Unauthorized Marches May Invite Immediate Action

Officials warned that individuals or organisations attempting to enter the Parliament security zone without prior approval could face immediate police action.

Student organisations, political activists, and other protest groups have been advised not to organise rallies or processions in restricted areas. Law enforcement agencies are expected to detain or disperse participants if any gathering violates the prohibitory orders currently in force.

Police have urged all organisations to follow legal procedures before planning public demonstrations.

Health Concerns Over Sonam Wangchuk Add to Tension

The proposed protest also comes amid growing concern over the health of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had earlier announced the Parliament march before being shifted to a hospital on Saturday.

Addressing speculation surrounding his transfer, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) clarified that a medical team had visited Jantar Mantar to conduct a routine health examination as part of a court-directed daily medical assessment.

According to police officials, the medical examination briefly encountered disruption after some demonstrators allegedly obstructed the team’s work, resulting in a short period of commotion at the protest venue.

Medical Advice Led to Hospital Transfer

Following the assessment, doctors reportedly advised that Wangchuk required further medical evaluation because of his fragile health condition.

Acting on medical recommendations, authorities shifted him to Safdarjung Hospital for additional examination and treatment.

The New Delhi DCP later stated through a post on social media that the decision was taken solely on medical grounds after consulting healthcare professionals responsible for monitoring Wangchuk’s condition.

Security Agencies Remain on Alert

With Parliament set to begin its Monsoon Session, Delhi Police and other security agencies remain on high alert across the capital.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation at Jantar Mantar while coordinating with intelligence agencies to prevent any disruption to parliamentary proceedings. Enhanced deployment, surveillance, and access control measures are expected to remain in place throughout the opening days of the session.

Authorities have appealed to all protest groups to respect existing legal restrictions and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and public safety during one of the country’s most important legislative sessions.
