India Conducts Successful Test Launch of Agni-1 Ballistic Missile

Strategic Forces Command Validates Operational Readiness of Short-Range Ballistic Missile

NEW DELHI, May 22: India on Friday successfully carried out the test launch of the Agni-1 missile from the Integrated Test Range located at Chandipur in Odisha, marking another milestone in the country’s strategic defence capabilities.

According to the Defence Ministry, the short range ballistic missile was launched under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command. Officials stated that the trial successfully met all mission objectives and validated the missile’s operational and technical performance.

The ministry said the launch confirmed the reliability, accuracy and combat preparedness of the weapon system, which forms an important part of India’s strategic deterrence framework.

The Agni series of missiles has been developed to strengthen the country’s defence infrastructure and strategic strike capability. The Agni-1 missile is designed for short-range targets, while the Agni-2, Agni-3 and Agni-4 variants are capable of striking longer distances.

Defence officials noted that the Agni missile family currently covers strike ranges from around 700 kilometres to nearly 3,500 kilometres, with several variants already inducted into the armed forces.

The successful Agni-1 missile test reflects India’s continued focus on enhancing indigenous defence technology and maintaining operational preparedness amid evolving regional security challenges.
