India Expands Semiconductor Mission with Fresh Incentives for Chip Manufacturing
Government announces additional support to boost domestic semiconductor production, attract global investments and strengthen the electronics supply chain.
New Delhi, July 27: The Centre has announced a new phase of the India Semiconductor Mission, introducing additional incentives to accelerate domestic chip manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported semiconductors. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s position in the global electronics industry while encouraging investments in advanced manufacturing facilities.
Officials said the expanded programme will focus on semiconductor fabrication, chip packaging, design innovation and research. The government expects the move to attract both domestic companies and international technology firms looking to diversify their supply chains.
Industry experts believe demand for semiconductors will continue to rise as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, consumer electronics and telecommunications expand rapidly. Strengthening local production capacity is expected to improve supply chain resilience and support India’s ambitions of becoming a global electronics manufacturing hub.
The latest policy package also includes support for semiconductor startups, skill development programmes and collaboration between academic institutions and industry partners. Engineering students and researchers will receive greater opportunities to work on chip design and fabrication technologies.
Technology companies welcomed the announcement, stating that long-term policy support will encourage investment in advanced manufacturing infrastructure. Several firms are expected to explore partnerships in wafer fabrication, testing and packaging facilities over the coming months.
