India Warns China Over Support to Pakistan During Operation Sindoor
New Delhi says countries backing terror linked infrastructure must reflect on their global credibility.
NEW DELHI, May 14: India issued a sharp diplomatic response to China after reports emerged that Beijing had provided technical and operational support to Pakistan during the military confrontation linked to Operation Sindoor. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that nations claiming to be responsible global powers should “reflect carefully” on whether supporting countries accused of protecting terror infrastructure enhances or damages their international reputation.
The comments came after Chinese state-linked media reports acknowledged that technical teams from Chinese defence agencies were present in Pakistan during the conflict period. The revelation has intensified geopolitical tensions across South Asia and triggered fresh debates on China’s strategic role in the region.
Officials in New Delhi said India had long suspected Chinese military cooperation with Pakistan but viewed the recent admission as significant because it publicly confirmed Beijing’s direct involvement. Analysts believe the development could complicate efforts to stabilise India-China relations after years of border tensions and diplomatic friction.
Operation Sindoor, launched by India following terror-related security threats, became a defining moment in regional security discussions. India has repeatedly accused Pakistan-based groups of receiving institutional protection, while Pakistan has denied the allegations.
Foreign policy experts say China’s growing military cooperation with Pakistan reflects a broader strategic alignment aimed at balancing India’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Beijing has invested heavily in Pakistan through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and defence partnerships involving fighter aircraft, drones, and missile technology.
Security analysts warn that the latest diplomatic exchange could impact future regional cooperation frameworks. India is expected to raise concerns regarding Chinese involvement at several multilateral forums in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, opposition parties in India demanded a detailed briefing from the government regarding the extent of Chinese assistance provided during the conflict. Defence experts have also called for accelerated modernisation of India’s indigenous military systems and stronger strategic partnerships with allied nations.
The diplomatic row has once again highlighted the fragile balance of power in South Asia, where military cooperation, economic interests, and geopolitical rivalries continue to shape regional security dynamics.
