J&K Government Refutes Claims of Ration Halt for BPL Families Over Verification Issues

Srinagar, March 19: The Jammu and Kashmir government has firmly denied reports suggesting that ration distribution to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families has been halted due to verification concerns. The clarification was issued in response to a query raised by MLA Mir Saifullah regarding the availability of food grains to eligible beneficiaries.

Addressing the matter, the Minister in charge of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs assured that all deserving households continue to receive their entitled food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and at subsidized rates under the Non-Priority Household (NPHH) category. He emphasized that no beneficiary has been deprived of their rightful ration due to verification-related issues.

“All eligible households are receiving food grains as per their entitlement and approved scales—free of cost under NFSA and at highly subsidized rates under NPHH,” the Minister stated, reiterating the government’s commitment to food security.

The government has further assured that any procedural verifications being conducted are aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy of the ration distribution system, without affecting the availability of essential commodities for the underprivileged. Authorities have urged the public not to fall prey to misinformation and to report any grievances directly to the concerned officials for immediate resolution.
