Kareena Kapoor Calls Out Bollywood’s Growing Copycat Trend
Actor urges filmmakers to prioritise original storytelling instead of chasing the formula of successful films
MUMBAI, Sept 10: Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has criticised what she described as a herd mentality in Bollywood, arguing that filmmakers should focus on original storytelling rather than repeatedly copying formulas that have succeeded at the box office.
Speaking about trends in the Hindi film industry, Kareena pointed to the success of Animal and observed that its popularity could encourage others to follow similar approaches, particularly by increasing the use of violent themes.
The actor questioned the tendency to immediately replicate a successful film’s formula instead of developing fresh ideas and distinctive stories.
Kareena also praised Malayalam cinema for giving greater importance to writers and storytelling. She said audiences are capable of recognising and supporting quality content when filmmakers offer compelling narratives.
Her comments come amid an ongoing debate within the Hindi film industry over originality, franchise-driven projects and the growing tendency to replicate commercially successful genres and themes.
The actor also expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of a film bringing together veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha under filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, reflecting her interest in projects driven by strong performances and storytelling.
