Leveraging Global Networks : KCCI and ESC Join Forces to Boost Kashmir’s Electronic and Software Industry

MoU Signing between KCCI and ESC Paves the Way for Innovative Technology Commercialization in Kashmir

20-06-2023: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council of India (ESC) to promote and mentor Kashmir-based electronics and software units.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, who highlighted the momentous occasion and the positive impact it will have on the electronic and IT sector in Jammu and Kashmir. The collaboration outlined in the MoU aims to organize buyer-seller meets, and share experiences, best practices, and knowledge within the sector. It also focuses on providing access to global markets, participating in trade fairs, and offering advisory services.

These initiatives will contribute to the growth and commercialization of innovative technologies developed by local entrepreneurs, fostering grassroots innovation and creating value addition. Lt Governor Sinha acknowledged the reforms introduced in recent years under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, which have resulted in transformative changes in the electronics, communication, and technology sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. The region has made significant strides in digitalization, infrastructure development for IT entrepreneurs, and improving the efficiency and transparency of public service delivery. Highlighting the immense potential in the IT sector, Lt Governor Sinha expressed his vision of transforming Jammu and Kashmir into an IT hub of North India. He emphasized the importance of comprehensive cooperation, creativity, and enterprise among stakeholders, utilizing the rich pool of human resources to achieve this goal. The Lt Governor also recognized the vast opportunities in agritech, particularly in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Automation for smart agriculture, research and development ecosystems, and technology-enabled agri-informatics. These advancements have the potential to generate employment and foster the growth of new enterprises.

Lt Governor Sinha stressed the significance of leveraging ESC India’s global network to tap into the skilled manpower base in Jammu and Kashmir. This collaboration aims to build on ongoing industrialization efforts and unleash the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of young founders and startups. The Lt Governor urged the Industries and Commerce Department, Information Technology Department, and other stakeholders to maximize the potential of the Software Technology Park at Rangreth. He also emphasized the importance of extending support to young entrepreneurs, startups, and small companies, as well as promoting public-private partnerships in the IT sector.

The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the presence of Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, Sandeep Narula, Chairman of ESC, Javid Ahmad Tenga, President of KCCI, Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner/Secretary of the Industries and Commerce Department, and other senior officials from the civil administration, police, and business community. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in promoting the electronic and IT sector in Jammu and Kashmir, positioning them for growth, innovation, and technological advancements in line with national and global trends.
