Mata Ramabai Ambedkar – A Symbol of Unparalleled Sacrifice and Dedication in World History
Jammu: 27.05.2026: Today, on the Nirwana Diwas of Mata Rama Bhai wife of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, R.K. Kalsotra, State President of the ‘All India Confederation of Dalit, OBC, Minority, and Adivasi Organizations,’ convened a Zoom meeting where from all over the state, the cadre of Confederation joined and paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s wife, Ramabai Ambedkar, on her death anniversary. She was a revolutionary woman who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with her husband during times of immense hardship. Born on February 7, 1898, Ramabai was married to Dr. Ambedkar at the tender age of just nine. From that moment until her very last breath on May 27, 1935, she supported her husband in every conceivable way—mentally, physically, and financially.
In his message, R.K. Kalsotra (State President of the Confederation) stated that, both as a community and as Indian citizens, we must unite to fight against the inequalities that confront us today. He further noted that Ramabai truly exemplified the famous adage: “Behind every successful man, there stands a woman.” She stood by her husband—Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar—unwaveringly, even during a time when he was being denied due social justice and equality. It was solely due to her sacrifice and selflessness that Dr. Ambedkar was able to complete his education and acquire all his academic degrees. It was a direct result of her support that Dr. Ambedkar succeeded in attaining the title of ‘Doctor.’ Kalsotra added that Mata Ramabai Ambedkar—a symbol of unparalleled sacrifice and dedication—remains an invaluable legacy in world history, for it was she who awakened Dr. Ambedkar’s true potential and inner strength. She stood by him like an unshakeable pillar of support.
Dr. Ambedkar himself, written In the preface of his 1941 work, Thoughts on Pakistan, he credited Ramabai for her “cool fortitude and readiness to suffer along with me”. He further emphasized her unmatched role in his transformation from an ordinary student into a global leader for the oppressed.
Kalsotra at the conclusion apprised that Nowadays, a campaign is going on to stop and eliminate drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country, on this a long conversation used to take place between Rama Bhai and Dr. Ambedkar.
Rama Bhai used to tell Ambedkar Sahib that in the slum where we live, men are drunk and when they come home, they beat their wives. These women don’t even have proper clothes to wear! You do so much for society, you should also work towards liberation from this addiction. .” Rama Bai possessed a truly compassionate heart”.
