Concerns Raised Over Halted Orchard Spraying in Unfavorable Weather
14-06-2023 : Rainfall has been lashing Jammu and Kashmir, and the meteorological department predicts more precipitation until June 17. Over the past 24 hours, various regions in the state have experienced varying amounts of rainfall. Srinagar received 11.2mm, Qazigund 1.8mm, Pahalgam 23.4mm, Kupwara 1.4mm, Kokernag 1.3mm, Gulmarg 4.6mm, Jammu had traces of rain, Banihal 0.2mm, and Katra received 41.6mm of rainfall. The forecast indicates that scattered places may witness brief spells of rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. From June 15 to 17, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Some areas in the Jammu region, such as Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Samba, have a 60% chance of experiencing moderate to heavy thundershowers during June 15 and 16.
It is important to note that the current weather conditions are not favorable for spraying orchards in the region for the next 4-5 days. In terms of temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 15.2°C, which is 0.9°C above normal for the summer capital. Qazigund observed a low of 15.0°C, indicating a deviation of 2.1°C above normal for this gateway town. Pahalgam registered a low of 9.8°C, which is 1.6°C above the normal range for this famous tourist resort. Kupwara recorded a low of 15.2°C, indicating a deviation of 2.6°C above the normal range. Kokernag remained steady at 13.8°C, while Gulmarg saw a low of 7.5°C, 1.4°C below the normal range for the skiing resort. Jammu had a low of 25.9°C, slightly above the normal range for the winter capital. Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah also experienced varying temperatures. In Ladakh, Leh recorded a low of 7.2°C, while Kargil had a low of 12.5°C.
