Multiple Amritsar Schools Evacuated After Bomb Threat Alerts
Anti sabotage checks underway police say no need to panic as cyber probe intensifies.
Amritsar, Dec 12: Several schools in Amritsar received bomb threat emails on Friday, forcing the evacuation of students and triggering widespread panic among parents. The district administration subsequently ordered the closure of all schools across the city.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said in a statement that multiple schools in both the urban and rural areas had received a “suspicious email.” He added that a Gazetted Officer had been deployed at each school and anti-sabotage checks were being conducted. Meanwhile, the Cyber Police Station is tracking the origin of the email “on a war footing.”
Parents rushed to campuses to take their children home as authorities worked to secure the affected schools. Police urged residents to remain calm, noting that in previous instances, students had been found responsible for similar acts of “mischief.”
Earlier, a DAV Public School student was detained for sending a bomb threat email to his school. He was released after he and his parents issued a written apology.
