Srinagar, 11-02-2025: The National Conference (NC) has vehemently dismissed reports circulating about a potential alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir, calling the claims “baseless” and “irresponsible.” Addressing the media on Tuesday, NC spokesperson and Zadibal MLA, Tanvir Sadiq, strongly refuted the assertions made by a local newspaper, terming them unfounded and misleading. He pointed out that the allegations surrounding NC’s potential collaboration with the BJP were purely speculative and lacked any credible basis.
Sadiq specifically addressed the misleading reports about party leadership, clarifying that NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah was in Bombay, not Delhi, as was falsely mentioned. Regarding a meeting between NC Vice President Omar Abdullah and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sadiq described it as a routine and professional engagement, one that has occurred in the past. He stressed that no extraordinary circumstances or special arrangements were made for this interaction.
Reaffirming the party’s strong opposition to the BJP, Sadiq stated that the NC had always opposed the BJP both in elections and in policy. He emphasized that the party would continue to uphold its stance against the BJP, and warned that media outlets that attempt to sow confusion with such reports would no longer receive the party’s cooperation. “The NC remains steadfast in its commitment to opposing the BJP, and such misleading reports have no basis in truth,” he declared.
While firmly rejecting the possibility of any alliance with the BJP, Sadiq did acknowledge that the NC has maintained a working relationship with the Centre. He explained that this relationship is primarily for the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir’s people and enables the NC leadership to engage with central leaders like the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. “Let me be clear,” Sadiq added, “the NC and the BJP can never sit together in one office. However, there has always been a working relationship based on mutual discussions aimed at addressing the needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The controversy had arisen following speculation about NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah’s extended stay in Delhi, with some reports suggesting that he had facilitated the meeting between Omar Abdullah and Amit Shah. These reports also hinted at the possibility of the NC moving closer to the BJP for what was described as the “larger interest” of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite these rumors, the NC leadership has firmly rejected any such notions, reiterating that its core political philosophy remains unchanged.
The National Conference has made it clear that it will not entertain any further rumors about an alliance with the BJP and remains committed to its long-standing political principles. The party’s leadership continues to focus on advocating for the rights and welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, without compromising its stance against the BJP.
