Jammu: Jan 19. National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) holds meeting on the awareness of pension at Govt Medical College Jammu in which President Mr.Mohammad Ashraf sheikh and UT chief convenor Rajeev Sharma graced the occasion as the Special Guests. The meeting was organised by Pt Ramesh Shashtri Provincial vice President NMOPS Jammu wherein Numbers of employees falling under New Pension Scheme (NPS ) from different government departments attended the meeting.
It Is pertinent to mention that in January 2004 a new privatised pension scheme (NPS) was introduced by government in center for government employees and like wise in Jammu and Kashmir it was introduced in January 2010. “However employees are completely unhappy with NPS because it is totally not at par with OPS in terms of it’s benefits”, as claimed by NMOPS J&K President .
“The NMOPS a national level organization of NPS employees under the leadership of its National President Shri Vijay Kumar Bandhu and in J&K President Mohd Ashraf Sheikh is running a countrywide campaign for the demand of restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for the government employees in all states and UTs of the country, because they claim that NPS is full of flaws and not suitable for post-retirement life of an employee”, reads the press statement issued by NMOPS.
During the meeting President Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh spoke on the flaws of NPS and benefits of OPS. The Sheikh claimed that years before government has snatched right of pension that was OPS and in return the NPS was a mere eye-wash for employees to silence their voice. Sheikh emphasized on strengthening of the organization to raise the campaign to a higher level in favour of restoration of OPS.
According to the figures claimed by NMOPS J&K President most of those employees who are getting retirement under new pension scheme are being paid their pension in pea nuts. Some employees have claimed that their monthly pension under the new scheme of pension is just less than a thousand rupees which is a joke with them and speaks volumes about the flawed new pension scheme.
Rajeev Sharma UT chief convenor said that pension was the core benefit of government services for employees which motivated them to join the jobs, because when an employee attains old age, he becomes completely dependent for the expenses like medicines etc. So the pension was there to meet all those expenses, but once the pension benefit has been removed, there is nothing in government job that can attract the new aspirants. The leaders termed the new pension scheme “ just a kind of tension” under the name of pension.
The leaders raised their voice against the New Pension Scheme and appealed the authorities at national level as well as the authorities at UT level to restore old pension scheme. “If it wasn’t restored in near future, the organization will gear up its agitation all across the JK UT for the revocation of this unjust NPS, claimed the leaders”.
