NTA Refutes Paper Leak Claims, Calls Video Fake, NEET Re-Exam Conducted Smoothly
Agency says misinformation campaign aimed at misleading aspirants; over 20 lakh candidates appear for nationwide re-exam under tight security arrangements.
NEW DELHI, Jun 22: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has strongly dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, describing a viral video on the issue as fabricated and misleading.
In an official statement posted on X, the agency clarified that the video being widely shared online has no factual basis and reiterated that the examination was conducted in a secure and well monitored environment across India and abroad.
“The video is fake and the claims it makes are false,” the NTA said, adding that attempts to spread such misinformation were a serious offence that could mislead students and create unnecessary panic among aspirants.
The agency further stated that it is working in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and law enforcement agencies to identify those responsible for creating and circulating the misleading content.
Officials urged students, parents, and the public to depend only on verified communication channels of the NTA and its official website for accurate updates, warning against amplifying unverified information on social media platforms.
According to the agency, more than 20 lakh candidates participated in the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination conducted on Sunday across 5,440 centres in India and 14 international locations. The test was held in 13 languages, including Hindi and English.
The re-exam was organised following the cancellation of the earlier test amid allegations of irregularities and paper leak incidents, which had triggered widespread concern and public debate over examination integrity.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said the successful conduct of the massive examination was made possible through a coordinated “whole-of-government” approach completed in a record 37 days.
He added that nearly 7 lakh personnel, including police forces, observers, and examination staff, were deployed nationwide to ensure smooth conduct and prevent unfair practices.
The agency highlighted that extensive technological measures such as Aadhaar-based biometric verification, facial recognition, CCTV surveillance, mobile signal jammers, and multi-layer frisking were implemented at all centres.
Centralised command and control rooms were also set up at multiple levels, including national headquarters, state institutions, and district administrations, to monitor the examination in real time.
NTA further stated that special arrangements were made for candidates with disabilities and medical conditions, including over 10,000 Persons with Disabilities and several critically ill aspirants, ensuring they could participate without difficulty.
Despite strict monitoring, officials reported a few isolated cases of impersonation and attempts to carry electronic devices into examination halls, which were promptly dealt with by security teams.
The agency also acknowledged support from central armed police forces and various government departments in ensuring the smooth execution of the examination process.
Meanwhile, protests and online campaigns continue in parts of the country over earlier allegations of irregularities, even as investigations into the suspected paper leak remain ongoing.
Officials reiterated that the integrity of national level examinations remains a top priority and assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in spreading false information or attempting malpractice.
