Prime Minister urges new MPs to learn from veterans, highlights enduring role of public service
New Delhi, Mar 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed gratitude to members retiring from the Rajya Sabha, stating that political life continues beyond parliamentary tenure and their experience remains vital for the nation.
Addressing the Upper House during the Budget Session, he said every member contributes uniquely to debates and legislative processes, adding that farewell moments foster mutual respect across party lines. He encouraged outgoing MPs to stay engaged in public life, emphasising that their knowledge and insights will continue to benefit society.
The Prime Minister also called upon newly elected members to draw inspiration from seasoned leaders such as H. D. Deve Gowda, Mallikarjun Kharge and Sharad Pawar, noting their decades long dedication to parliamentary service.
In a lighter note, he referred to Ramdas Athawale as “evergreen,” expressing confidence that his presence and wit would continue to resonate beyond the House.
A total of 37 members are set to retire in this cycle, including leaders such as Priyanka Chaturvedi, Tiruchi Siva and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
