Jammu, April 18, 2026: Rangyug successfully performed its iconic production, “Ek Tha Gadha…”, written by the legendary playwright Sharad Joshi and designed and directed by eminent theatre director Deepak Kumar, at Abhinav Theatre.

The play drew a massive crowd, reaffirming that meaningful theatre continues to hold strong relevance among audiences.

The play, a masterpiece of political satire, used sharp humour to peel back the layers of administrative corruption and the hollowness of power. The audience was captivated by the witty dialogues and the engaging narrative style, which transformed a tragic-comic premise into a mirror of society.

The production featured a grand ensemble of more than 25 actors, showcasing a rare blend of experience and youthful energy. Rangyug’s initiative to channelize the energy of young artists was evident in the seamless synchronization and high-voltage performances of the newcomers.

A distinctive highlight of the production was its innovative technical treatment, where live shots and stage action were seamlessly integrated, creating a unique and contemporary theatrical experience. This experimental blend added a fresh visual dimension to the play and was widely appreciated as a bold and creative departure from conventional staging.

In a significant initiative, Rangyug presented the show through donor tickets, a conscious effort aimed at supporting the survival and sustainability of theatre in Jammu. This initiative was widely appreciated by the audience, who acknowledged it as an important step towards strengthening the culture of live theatre in the region.

Senior actors Raj Kumar Behrupia as Nawab, Soham Kashyap as Kotwal, Isha Ankur Bamba as Ramkali, Ashish Sharma as Juggan, Sahil Bazaz as Nathu, Sumit Kumar as Devilal, and Shivan Gupta as Alladad delivered nuanced and impactful performances. They were ably supported by young artists including Ruteshwar Chouhan, Kunal Chib, Akshar Vashisht, Aanandita Dutt, Aalap Sharma, Amiara Gupta and Saksham Chib, among others.

Other members of the cast, including Vivek Sangotra, Pradeep Sharma, along with Surinder Sharma, Gourav Sharma, Ravinder Manhas, Manoj Dhamir, Kuldeep Chouhan, Geetanjali Sharma, Sonia Sharma, Muskan Bangotra, Niharika and Gurmeet Sandhu, contributed effectively to the overall impact of the production through their respective roles.

The production was further strengthened by a dedicated technical and creative team. Music by Suraj Singh, with vocals by Suraj Singh, Raj Kumar Behrupia, Pankaj Khajuria, Rohit Gupta, and Vikrant Sharma. Costumes and sound by RJ Juhie, who also served as Assistant Director, ensured a cohesive stage experience.

Make-up by Manoj Dhamir, sets by Dr. Vijay Puri, and lights by Pankaj Sharma enhanced the visual appeal. The poster and banner were designed by Chander Shekhar (Bunty), while hall management by Mohit Singh Chib, Harshita Sharma, Rishi Kumar, and Sahil Sharma ensured smooth execution. The event was supported by media partner State Samachar.
