In the 54th over, he bowled Alex Carey to complete the feat. In addition, he surpassed veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble to become the fastest Indian to climb the landmark. As opposed to Kumble’s 93 Tests, Ashwin needed 89 to attain the milestone.
He achieved the milestone in the second-fastest time overall. Only former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who accomplished the feat in 80 matches, is ahead of him. Glenn McGrath (100) and Shane Warne (101) of Australia round out the top five fastest bowlers reach 450 Test wickets.
