Santosh Sharma’s demise leaves Jammu in mourning
Jammu, 31-01-2026: Smt. Santosh Sharma, wife of late Baldev Sharma and mother of senior IAS officer Amit Sharma, breathed her last in Jammu on Saturday, leaving behind a legacy marked by dignity, resilience, and a life devoted to compassion and selfless values.
She was 87 years old and had been unwell for the past few days. Family sources said that she had been a long-time survivor, bravely battling liver and heart-related ailments. Despite her health challenges, she remained a pillar of strength for her family and commanded deep respect within social and public circles.
Smt. Santosh Sharma was known for her composed personality, simplicity, and unwavering support to her husband during his public life and later to her son in his distinguished administrative career. Those who knew her recall her as a woman of strong values who believed in education, discipline, and compassion, and who consistently encouraged these principles within her family.
Her son, IAS officer Amit Sharma, presently serving as Director of Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and a 2012-batch AGMUT cadre officer, described his mother as the greatest source of inspiration in his life. He said she laid the foundation of his success by instilling in him a deep respect for education, integrity, social responsibility, and moral conduct from an early age.
