Traffic Resumes on Jammu-Srinagar Highway After Landslides Halt Movement in Ramban

Clearing operations restore traffic movement; stranded vehicles evacuated, commuters urged to follow advisories

Jammu, Apr 7: Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway resumed on Tuesday morning after authorities cleared landslides that had disrupted connectivity in Ramban district for nearly a day.

Officials confirmed that restoration work was completed early in the day, allowing vehicles to move again along the crucial route. Passenger traffic has now been permitted from both sides, enabling travel between Jammu and Srinagar.

The disruption occurred on Monday when landslides and falling debris blocked both tunnels between Karol Bridge and Chanderkote, forcing authorities to suspend vehicular movement as a precautionary measure.

More than 400 vehicles had been stranded at multiple locations due to the blockage. Officials ensured that these vehicles were given priority clearance once the road was reopened.

Traffic authorities have issued an advisory urging commuters to maintain strict lane discipline. They cautioned that overtaking or driving in the wrong lane could lead to congestion and delays along the highway.

The public has also been advised to rely only on official updates for road conditions and avoid misinformation. Authorities recommended checking verified updates through traffic police and control units in Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban before planning travel.
