White House Highlights ‘Significant’ Defense Partnership with India Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit

13-06-2023 : The White House has expressed that the United States maintains a “significant” defense partnership with India and enjoys “terrific cooperation” within the Quad alliance. John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, made these remarks during a daily news conference on Monday, just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the US.

Kirby emphasized the anticipation surrounding Prime Minister Modi’s visit and highlighted the strong defense partnership between the US and India, as well as the fruitful cooperation within the Quad framework across the Indo-Pacific region. The Quad, consisting of Japan, India, Australia, and the US, was established in 2017 to address China’s assertive actions in the Indo-Pacific region. The invitation for Modi to undertake an official State Visit, including a State Dinner on June 22, was extended by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
