J&K Police Ramp Up Efforts to Combat SIM Card Misuse by Terrorists Across Multiple Districts
SRINAGAR, Feb 9: In a decisive move to counter the growing threat of SIM card misuse by terrorists and criminal elements, Jammu and Kashmir Police have significantly intensified their efforts across the region. Extensive inspections have been conducted across multiple districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Samba, and Kishtwar, as part of a robust operation aimed at ensuring strict adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) norms by SIM card vendors.
According to police officials, these enhanced measures come in response to increasing concerns over the unlawful use of SIM cards, which have been exploited by terrorists to carry out illegal activities. Over the past year alone, authorities have arrested over 30 individuals who were involved in procuring SIM cards in their names and illegally passing them on to militants for nefarious purposes.
The intensified inspections are designed to curb unauthorized SIM card issuance, a critical step in safeguarding the integrity of communication networks and preventing their exploitation by anti-national forces. By enforcing strict compliance with KYC regulations, the police aim to shut down a major conduit for terrorists operating in the region.
The State Investigation Agency and district police units are actively investigating and taking strong actions against such violations, ensuring that those facilitating such illegal activities are held accountable. Authorities have made it clear that any individual found aiding the misuse of SIM cards for terrorist or criminal activities will face severe legal consequences.
J&K Police have appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and cautious about SIM cards issued in their names. The force remains steadfast in its commitment to public safety and is determined to protect the region from the misuse of communication networks by criminal and anti-national elements.
