Special Train Service Launched to Facilitate Stranded Passengers Amid Travel Disruptions

JAMMU, April 23: In response to the transportation challenges faced by stranded passengers due to recent disruptions, the Indian Railways has introduced a Special Train (Train No. 04612) from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Katra to New Delhi. This initiative aims to accommodate the surge in passenger movement and ensure a safe and convenient journey for those affected.

  • The special train will depart from SMVD Katra at 21:20 hours, with scheduled halts at key transit points:
  • Udhampur (Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station): 21:48 – 21:50 hrs
  • Jammu Tawi Railway Station: 23:00 – 23:05 hrs

The train will reach New Delhi at 09:30 AM the following day, offering much-needed relief to the stranded commuters, especially tourists and pilgrims caught in the aftermath of the recent disturbances.

Tickets for this special service are available over the counter at SMVD Katra, Udhampur, and Jammu railway stations. The authorities have ensured adequate staffing and resources to manage the ticketing rush and assist passengers throughout the boarding process.

This step is particularly timely as the National Highway at Ramban has only been restored for one-way traffic, limiting road travel options between Jammu and Kashmir. The special train will, therefore, serve as a vital alternative for passengers stuck in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region.

The administration has reiterated its commitment to the welfare of tourists and locals, urging everyone to maintain calm, follow official advisories, and cooperate with the security and railway staff for a smooth transit experience. Additional support teams have also been deployed at major stations to guide and assist passengers, especially senior citizens, women, and children.
