PM Modi Congratulates Patrick Herminie on Winning Seychelles Presidential Election

Indian Prime Minister hails strong India-Seychelles ties and looks forward to deepened cooperation under Herminie’s leadership

India, Oct 12 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his warm congratulations to Patrick Herminie following his triumph in the Seychelles Presidential elections.

In a post on X, PM Modi emphasized the longstanding friendship between India and Seychelles and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would grow stronger during Herminie’s tenure.

“The waters of the Indian Ocean are our shared heritage and nourish the aspirations and needs of our people. I am confident that our time-tested and multi-faceted relations will deepen and gain further momentum in his tenure as President. My best wishes to him for the tenure ahead,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Dr. Patrick Herminie, the Leader of the Opposition and former Speaker of the National Assembly, emerged victorious in a closely contested runoff, defeating incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan. Official results show Herminie received 52.7% of the votes compared to Ramkalawan’s 47.3%.

Herminie, 62, served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2016. As President, he has pledged to prioritize national unity, economic revival, and strengthened regional partnerships.

India and Seychelles share a robust history of diplomatic and strategic cooperation, encompassing maritime security, development initiatives, and capacity building. PM Modi’s message underscores India’s commitment to further enhancing this strategic partnership.
