Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar unveils plans for Delhi Metro International Limited, Mass Rapid Transit System, and Metro Rail Academy at Urban Mobility India Conference
Gurugram, Nov 8 — Union Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs and Energy Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced a series of major initiatives to enhance urban infrastructure and public convenience during the inauguration of the 18th Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition in Gurugram.
Khattar revealed plans to establish Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a new entity aimed at expanding the Delhi Metro network’s footprint beyond India. He also announced the development of a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to improve interconnectivity, safety, and reliability of metro transportation across the country.
To promote innovation and strengthen capacity building in the sector, Khattar said the government will soon set up the Delhi Metro Rail Academy along with a Centre of Excellence. These institutions will focus on research, training, and the adoption of cutting edge technologies to advance India’s metro infrastructure.
Highlighting the need for better urban amenities, Khattar noted that Gurugram, as one of the nation’s key cities, also requires a world class convention centre similar to those in the national capital.
Emphasizing sustainable and integrated transportation, the minister said, “India currently ranks third globally in metro service coverage, and within the next three years, it is expected to surpass the United States to become a global leader in metro infrastructure.”
He added that these projects align with the government’s Make in India vision and will play a vital role in positioning India as a developed nation by 2047.
