Kashmir Deep Freeze: Srinagar at –3.1°C, Pahalgam Plunges to –5.2°C

Srinagar drops to –3.1°C, Pahalgam hits –5.2°C; Zojila coldest at –16°C as Jammu, Ladakh also witness sharp chill

Srinagar, Nov 29: The Kashmir Valley continued to reel under a severe cold wave on Friday night, with minimum temperatures plunging sharply across most stations, according to data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather. After days of steady decline, the region recorded deep sub-zero temperatures, signalling an intensification of the winter chill.

Several areas across the Valley remained well below freezing. Srinagar settled at –3.1°C, while Qazigund dipped to –3.4°C. Pahalgam, among the coldest locations, registered –5.2°C, closely followed by Kupwara at –4.9°C. Pampore recorded an icy –6.0°C, and Awantipora touched –5.0°C, both significantly colder than the previous day.

Other major stations also reported harsh night temperatures. Kokernag recorded –1.6°C, Gulmarg stood at –1.3°C, and Srinagar Airport plunged to –5.2°C. In north Kashmir, Zethan Rafiabad touched –5.6°C, while the coldest point across the region remained Zojila Pass, freezing at a bitter –16.0°C.

In contrast, most stations in the Jammu region stayed above the freezing mark, offering some respite compared to the Valley. Jammu recorded 9.4°C, Katra 8.6°C, and Kathua 7.8°C. However, Banihal slipped close to freezing at –0.3°C, followed by Bhaderwah at 0.4°C, Udhampur at 4.0°C, Rajouri at 1.2°C, and Batote at 4.4°C.

Further north, Ladakh continued to face extreme cold. Leh recorded –9.0°C, Kargil dropped to –10.2°C, and Nubra Valley remained frigid at –8.5°C, marking one of the harshest nights of the season so far.
