‘Russia Fully Committed to Achieving Peace,’ Says Trump’s Envoy Steve Witkoff After Miami Talks

US, Russian and Ukrainian delegations describe Miami discussions on peace framework as ‘productive and constructive’

US, Dec 22 : US President Donald Trump’s foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Saturday said Russia “remains fully committed to achieving peace” in Ukraine, following the conclusion of high level talks between American and Russian delegations in Miami, Florida.

In a statement posted on X, Witkoff said Russia “highly values” the efforts of the United States to resolve the conflict and restore global security. The talks were held over two days in Florida as part of Washington’s diplomatic push to advance President Trump’s proposed peace plan for Ukraine.

“Over the last two days in Florida, the Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev held productive and constructive meetings with the American delegation to advance President Trump’s peace plan on Ukraine,” Witkoff said. The US delegation included Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and White House staff member Josh Gruenbaum.

“Russia remains fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine and highly values the efforts and support of the United States to resolve the conflict,” the statement added.

The negotiations took place amid renewed calls from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Washington to increase pressure on Moscow.

Separately, Witkoff and Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, described meetings between Ukrainian, American and European officials in Miami as “productive and constructive.”

In a joint statement shared by Umerov on X, the Ukrainian side said discussions focused on further developing President Trump’s proposed 20-point peace plan, aligning positions on a multilateral security guarantee framework, a US security guarantee framework for Ukraine, and advancing an economic and prosperity plan.

The Ukrainian delegation included Umerov and Lieutenant General Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The American delegation included Witkoff, Kushner and Gruenbaum, with key European national security advisers also participating to ensure coordination between Ukraine, the United States and Europe.

Ukraine said the talks also addressed timelines and sequencing of next steps toward peace. “Ukraine remains fully committed to achieving a just and sustainable peace,” Umerov said, adding that the priority was to stop the fighting, ensure guaranteed security and lay the groundwork for long-term recovery and stability.

“Peace must not only mean an end to hostilities, but also a dignified foundation for a stable future,” the statement said, noting Ukraine’s appreciation for US leadership and continued coordination with international partners.
