“PM Modi Joins Pongal Celebrations, Hails Festival as a Global Tradition”
Prime Minister Highlights Role of Farmers in Nation Building and Urges Youth to Promote Sustainable Farming
New Delhi, Jan 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Pongal celebrations at the residence of Union Minister of State L. Murugan in the national capital on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, he described Pongal as a global festival that inspires gratitude towards farmers, food providers, and nature.
PM Modi emphasized that festivals like Pongal strengthen the idea of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ and reaffirm the country’s commitment to empowering farmers.
“Our farmers are strong partners in nation-building. Their efforts are greatly strengthening the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign,” he said.
During the celebrations, the Prime Minister offered prayers and fed cows, underlining the connection between agriculture, rural life, and the dignity of labour.
PM Modi also highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship for future generations.
“When this earth gives us so much, it is our responsibility to preserve it. Keeping soil fertile, conserving water, and using resources sustainably is vital for the next generation,” he said.
Recalling his visits to Tamil Nadu, PM Modi spoke of the richness of Tamil culture and heritage. He praised youth involved in natural farming initiatives, many of whom left high profile careers to work in agriculture.
“I urge young Tamil friends to further expand their efforts in sustainable farming. Our goal should be that our plates remain full, our pockets secure, and our earth protected,” he added.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi greeted citizens with a “Vanakkam” on social media, extending wishes on Pongal and stressing the festival’s role in celebrating agriculture, rural life, and social bonds.
