Iran Signals Readiness for Peace Within International Law in Call With Saudi Crown Prince
Iran and Saudi Arabia discuss regional peace; Tehran warns of strict measures against foreign aggression.
Iran, Jan 28 : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Tehran’s readiness to engage in any peace process and prevent conflict “within the framework of international law,” while safeguarding the nation’s rights, during a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday. Both leaders emphasized the importance of ensuring lasting peace and security in West Asia, according to a statement from the Iranian president’s office cited by Xinhua.
Pezeshkian criticized the United States, alleging that its threats and actions against Iran undermine regional security and have hindered past diplomatic efforts with Europe. He called for greater cooperation among Muslim nations to promote stability, security, and development in the region.
The Saudi crown prince affirmed that Riyadh considers any aggression or escalation against Iran “unacceptable” and expressed his country’s willingness to work with Iran and regional states to maintain peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Navy Commander Mohammad Akbarzadeh warned neighboring countries against allowing their airspace, territory, or waters to be used in attacks against Iran. He added that Tehran continuously monitors activity in the Strait of Hormuz and determines which vessels and warships may transit the area.
These statements come amid rising regional tensions following the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group in the Middle East. Iran has also issued warnings of a “comprehensive and regret-inducing” response to any act of aggression.
