Rahul Gandhi to Launch Congress Campaign with Barnala Rally

Congress ramps up election preparations as Feb 28 rally aims to position party as viable alternative in Punjab.

Bathinda, Feb 20 : The Congress Party is set to launch its campaign for the upcoming Punjab assembly elections with a large rally addressed by Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in Barnala on February 28. Preparations began on Thursday for the event, which will be held at the Barnala grain market.

Former MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj has been appointed district in-charge for the rally, coordinating with Barnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhillon and other party leaders. Party sources said the aim is to ensure a strong start to election campaigning, leaving nothing to chance to draw a massive crowd.

The three assembly segments in Barnala district Barnala, Bhadaur, and Megha Kalan have been instructed to organise preparatory meetings by February 21 and report outcomes to the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee to maximise turnout for the rally.

PPCC General Secretary (Organisation) Capt Sandeep Singh Sandhu (retd) confirmed that party leaders have been assigned specific duties to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Congress sources said the party plans to use the rally to highlight issues with both the central and state governments and to present itself as a credible alternative in Punjab, while also working to maintain unity among leaders and reduce internal factionalism.

The rally comes as political rivals accelerate their campaigns: the Aam Aadmi Party held a rally in Moga on February 16, while the BJP is planning a Barnala rally addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in early March.
