La-Veeraz Cup promotes chess talent across age groups in Jammu region

Jammu, 26-04-2026: The first La-Veeraz Cup Chess Fiesta was successfully held at La-Veeraz Cloth Factory, Khara Madana, with Paras Sharma emerging as the winner of the tournament. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 65 players, ranging from young children of 5 years to senior players up to 70 years, reflecting the growing popularity of chess across all age groups.

Former DDC member Mr. Avtar Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the organizers for conducting the event and encouraging young minds to take up chess as a game of discipline, concentration and strategy. He also distributed cash prizes worth Rs 25,000 among the winners and achievers.

In the overall results, Paras Sharma secured the first position, while veteran player S.P. Sharma claimed the second spot. Maxim Singh finished third. The fourth to tenth positions were secured by Rithvik Gandotra, Pazhany Kohli, Sumit Grover, Harinandan, Rajyawardhan Singh, Akashdeep Singh and Surinder Gupta, respectively.

Several special category awards were also presented to encourage emerging talent. Amrita Gupta received the Best Woman Award, while Mitansh was declared the best player in the Under-15 category. Ishwam Kwatra won the Under-13 award, Keshav was adjudged best in the Under-11, Yuvaan secured the Under-9 title and Karan was declared best in the Under-7 category.

The tournament was played in rapid format under the Swiss system, with a total of seven rounds conducted during the event. Stuti Gupta served as the Chief Arbiter, while Aditi Sharma acted as the Deputy Chief Arbiter and ensured the smooth conduct of the competition.

The event was held under the supervision of Meenal Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association. The organizers said that such tournaments provide a healthy platform for players of different age groups to compete, learn and improve their skills. The successful conduct of the first La-Veeraz Cup Chess Fiesta was widely appreciated by participants, parents and chess lovers.
