Army Chief Warns Pakistan Over Terror Support, Anti-India Operations
Gen Upendra Dwivedi says Islamabad must choose peace over hostility as he recalls India’s firm response during Operation Sindoor.
NEW DELHI, May 16: Delivering a strong warning to Islamabad, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said Pakistan must reconsider its actions if it continues supporting terrorism directed at India.
Speaking during an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’ organised by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, Gen Dwivedi stated that Pakistan would have to determine its future course if anti-India activities persist.
“If Pakistan continues to shelter terrorists and facilitate operations against India, then it has to decide whether it wants to remain part of geography or become history,” the Army chief said while responding to a question on the Indian Army’s likely reaction to any situation similar to the one that led to Operation Sindoor.
His remarks came shortly after the nation and the armed forces marked one year of Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the terror strike in Pahalgam last year.
Under the operation, Indian forces carried out precision attacks on terror facilities located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on May 7, 2025. Pakistan later initiated retaliatory military action, prompting further counter-strikes by India under the same operation.
The military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours continued for nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on May 10 last year, bringing the hostilities to a halt.
