Machail Mata and Mindhal Mata Yatras Paused as Severe Weather Hits Kishtwar

District authorities suspend both annual yatras for a day as persistent rainfall and hazardous route conditions raise safety concerns for devotees.

Kishtwar, June 5: The District Administration of Kishtwar has temporarily suspended the Shri Machail Mata Yatra 2026 and Shri Mindhal Mata Yatra 2026 following a spell of severe weather that has affected several parts of the district.

Officials announced the precautionary measure after continuous rainfall led to deteriorating travel conditions along pilgrimage routes. Waterlogged stretches, slippery tracks, and the increased possibility of falling rocks prompted authorities to prioritize the safety of devotees and support staff involved in the annual religious journeys.

In an official advisory, the administration urged pilgrims to postpone their travel plans for the day and avoid venturing onto the yatra routes until conditions improve. Authorities emphasized that the decision was taken solely as a preventive measure to ensure that no lives are put at risk during the ongoing weather disturbance.

The district administration has advised all registered pilgrims and visitors already present in the region to remain at designated safe locations and follow instructions issued by local officials. Emergency teams and field personnel have also been directed to maintain vigilance across vulnerable areas where weather-related incidents may occur.

Officials stated that weather conditions are being continuously assessed in coordination with relevant departments. Any decision regarding the resumption of the pilgrimages will be taken after a thorough review of route safety, rainfall intensity, and overall ground conditions.

Both the Machail Mata and Mindhal Mata yatras attract thousands of devotees every year from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and other states. The annual pilgrimages hold deep religious significance and contribute significantly to local economic activity during the yatra season.

Authorities have appealed to devotees to cooperate with the temporary restrictions and refrain from attempting the journey until fresh instructions are issued. They reiterated that public safety remains the administration’s highest priority and that updates regarding the resumption of the yatras will be communicated through official channels.

With weather conditions remaining uncertain, officials continue to monitor the situation closely while ensuring that adequate arrangements are in place for pilgrims currently stationed at various locations across the district.
