Omar Abdullah: Elections Delayed in J&K Due to BJP’s Lack of Preparedness
Political Alliances in J&K Pointless without Election Announcement, says Omar Abdullah
10-06-2023 : Omar Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his view on the delayed elections in the region, stating that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been prepared, the elections would have taken place by now. He highlighted the remarks made by the Chief Election Commissioner, who acknowledged a vacuum in the Union Territory’s governance.
During a conversation with reporters, Omar Abdullah emphasized that the BJP’s lack of readiness is evident, and if they were prepared, elections would have been conducted in Jammu and Kashmir. He mentioned that the Chief Election Commissioner had stated that once they receive information from the Home Ministry about the situation, they will announce elections. However, he expressed his confusion as to why that information has not been received yet.
Refusing to entertain further questions about the possibility of holding elections, Omar Abdullah stated that if elections are happening, so be it, and if not, that should be accepted as well. He responded strongly to a query about the formation of political alliances in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that discussing alliances is pointless when there is no official announcement regarding elections.
He further explained that the process of consultation with political parties can only begin once the election announcement is made, as it cannot be based solely on an individual’s opinion. Omar Abdullah also addressed the challenges faced by passengers traveling on the Mughal road, highlighting the need for efficient and swift checking and identification procedures due to the increased incidents related to militancy in the area.
He criticized the administration for failing to address the problems faced by passengers, stating that the situation has worsened instead of improving, indicating a failure in security measures.
