“Bengal’s Mood Signals BJP Win; PM Says He’ll Return for Swearing-In Ceremony”

PM Narendra Modi says poll “mood” favours BJP in West Bengal attacks TMC over governance, violence, and economic concerns

KOLKATA, Apr 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the next government in West Bengal following the ongoing Assembly elections. He asserted that he would return to the state for the swearing-in ceremony after the results are declared on May 4.
Addressing an election rally in Barrackpore, located in the North 24 Parganas district, Modi said the public sentiment clearly indicates a shift in power. He described the prevailing mood as favourable to the BJP and suggested that political change in the state is imminent.
Focus Keyphrase: Bengal poll mood
Speaking on the final day of campaigning for the second phase of elections, Modi intensified his criticism of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). He accused the party of enabling a system marked by political violence, corruption, and what he termed as a “syndicate raj” that has hindered the state’s progress.
Highlighting Barrackpore’s historical importance, the Prime Minister referred to its association with the Indian Rebellion of 1857, stating that the region once again stands at the cusp of a major transformation.
Modi emphasised that the development of West Bengal is vital for the country’s broader economic growth. He underlined the importance of eastern India’s rise, adding that strengthening the region would significantly contribute to national progress.
Drawing comparisons with BJP’s recent electoral gains in neighbouring states such as Odisha and Bihar, he said the party is poised to replicate similar success in West Bengal. He also alleged that the TMC has deviated from its founding principles and lacks a clear roadmap for development.
Raising concerns over industrial decline, Modi claimed that several mills have shut down while illegal activities have increased. He alleged that criminal networks are expanding under the current administration, impacting employment and law and order.
The Prime Minister further criticised the ruling party’s political approach, accusing it of relying on intimidation, misinformation, and personal attacks rather than governance. He alleged that remarks have been made against constitutional institutions and even the armed forces.
With campaigning concluding for the final phase, the BJP leadership remains optimistic, projecting a decisive mandate driven by what it calls a clear “Bengal poll mood” in its favour.
