IIT Kanpur, Ambedkar University Agra Launch Cybersecurity Programme for Students
The initiative will reach students across hundreds of colleges and establish a dedicated counselling cell to promote cyber safety and awareness.
NEW DELHI, Aug 19: IIT Kanpur and Ambedkar University Agra have launched a major cybersecurity education initiative aimed at expanding awareness and training among students across Uttar Pradesh.
The programme is expected to benefit more than three lakh students studying in around 570 colleges, according to an education-sector report published on August 19. The initiative seeks to strengthen students’ understanding of cyber threats while equipping them with practical knowledge to identify and prevent online risks.
A dedicated Cybersecurity Counselling Cell will also be established under the programme. The centre will focus on helping students understand cybercrime, prevention measures and appropriate responses to digital threats.
The collaboration comes at a time when students are increasingly dependent on digital platforms for education, communication, financial transactions and access to online services. This growing digital exposure has also increased the importance of cybersecurity awareness among young people.
The programme is expected to provide students with structured guidance on issues such as online fraud, data protection, cyberbullying, identity theft and other forms of digital crime.
Beyond awareness campaigns, the initiative could help create a stronger culture of responsible digital behaviour within educational institutions. Faculty members and institutions can also play an important role by helping students recognise emerging threats and adopt safer online practices.
The involvement of IIT Kanpur brings technical expertise to the programme, while Ambedkar University Agra will help connect the initiative with institutions and students across the region.
The project represents a broader shift in higher education towards combining traditional academic learning with practical skills relevant to the digital economy.
With cyber threats evolving rapidly, educational institutions are increasingly being viewed as important platforms for building digital resilience among young people. The new programme aims to make cybersecurity awareness a more integral part of students’ academic experience.
