India’s Exports Gain Momentum on Government Policy Support
Commerce Ministry highlights FTAs, PLI scheme and textile infrastructure initiatives as key drivers of global competitiveness
JAIPUR, June 10: India’s export sector is gaining strength through a combination of policy reforms, digital advancements, logistics improvements and targeted trade initiatives, according to a senior Commerce Ministry official.
Addressing a regional media interaction jointly organised by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and the Department of Commerce in Jaipur on Tuesday, Senior Economic Adviser Agrim Kaushal said the government is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to position the country as a leading player in the global textiles and apparel industry.
Kaushal said the sector’s growth roadmap is anchored in the Prime Minister’s “5F” vision linking agriculture, manufacturing, fashion and overseas markets into an integrated value chain.
He outlined a range of government interventions, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, PM MITRA parks, Mega Textile Parks, the National Technical Textiles Mission and export-focused support measures. These initiatives, he noted, are helping strengthen manufacturing capabilities and improve India’s standing in international markets.
The official also pointed to emerging opportunities created by new Free Trade Agreements and the recently launched Export Promotion Mission, which are expected to enhance market access for domestic exporters.
Highlighting Rajasthan’s contribution to the sector, Kaushal said Jaipur has established itself as the state’s principal garment export centre, accounting for nearly 86 per cent of Rajasthan’s ready-made garment shipments. He credited local exporters for successfully blending traditional craftsmanship with modern production techniques to serve buyers across North America, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
Rajasthan Garment Exporters’ Association (GEAR) President Rakshit Poddar said Jaipur’s apparel industry has adapted to changing global consumer preferences while retaining its distinctive design heritage and artisanal strengths.
AEPC Executive Committee member Aseem Kumar emphasised the need to accelerate investments in workforce training, technology adoption, sustainable manufacturing practices and infrastructure development to sustain long-term growth.
Industry representatives expressed confidence that ongoing and upcoming trade agreements would create fresh opportunities and support the expansion of India’s apparel exports in key international markets.
