M. Y. Tarigami Secures Historic Fifth Victory in Kulgam, Defeating Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sayar Ahmad Reshi by 7,800 Votes

Srinagar,08-10-2024 : CPI(M) leader M. Y. Tarigami has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the Kulgam Assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth consecutive time, solidifying his position as a prominent political figure in the region. In the recent elections, Tarigami emerged victorious over his nearest rival, Sayar Ahmad Reshi, a former member of the now-banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), by a substantial margin of over 7,800 votes.

With a total of 33,634 votes cast in his favor, Tarigami demonstrated considerable electoral strength, while Reshi garnered 25,796 votes. Notably, this election marked Reshi’s inaugural foray into politics, making the outcome particularly significant for both candidates.

Tarigami’s continued success in Kulgam reflects not only his enduring popularity but also the support for the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) in the region, despite the fluctuating political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. His electoral victory is expected to further enhance his influence in local governance and policy-making, as he focuses on addressing the pressing issues faced by the constituents of Kulgam.
