NMC President Urges PM Modi to Release Pending 4% DA Installment and 18-Month Arrears

Jammu, 15-10-2024:  Subash Shastri, president of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC), has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the pending 4% installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) effective from July 1, 2024. He emphasized the need for this release, highlighting the financial strain caused by rising inflation and increasing prices of essential commodities.

In his address to NMC workers, Shastri also reiterated the demand for the release of the pending DA arrears for the past 18 months. He proposed merging 50% of DA with the basic pay and pension for government employees and pensioners as a measure to offset the impact of the price hike.

Further, Shastri urged the Prime Minister to expedite the appointment of the Chairman and members of the 8th Pay Commission to review and address the concerns of employees effectively. He also called for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), following the example of states such as Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Karnataka, and Sikkim.

The NMC leader highlighted the urgent need for a special package of Rs. 2,000 crore per annum for the regularization of daily-wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he demanded an increase in the medical allowance for employees and pensioners to Rs. 1,000 per month, aligning it with the benefits extended in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The meeting saw participation from several prominent NMC members, including Rajan Babu Khajuria, B.S. Jamwal, Ram Singh, Ramesh Sharma, Surinder Kumar, Sukhdev Singh, and Raman Sharma, who supported the demands put forth by their leader.
