Nortje Returns for SA’s T20I Series vs India, Rising Star Hermann Named in ODI Squad
Proteas bolster pace attack with Nortje for T20Is, Hermann earns ODI call up as South Africa fine-tunes combinations ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup.
Africa, Nov 22 : South Africa has recalled fast bowler Anrich Nortje to their T20I squad for the upcoming series against India, scheduled from December 9 to 19, while young wicketkeeper batter Rubin Hermann has been named in the ODI squad for the matches to be played between November 30 and December 6.
Nortje, 32, last played for the Proteas in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup final in Barbados. He recently returned to competitive cricket through the CSA T20 Challenge after recovering from a stress reaction injury that ruled him out of tours to Zimbabwe, Australia, and England.
Head coach Shukri Conrad expressed confidence in the squad’s depth despite the absence of pacer Kagiso Rabada.
“Every time someone is unavailable, it opens the door for another player to stand up. It’s really good to welcome Anrich back after his injury layoff his experience and impact are invaluable,” he said.
Hermann, who made his ODI debut earlier this month against Pakistan, strengthens the batting lineup. Temba Bavuma will captain the ODI side for matches in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam, while Aiden Markram returns to lead the T20I team across five venues Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad. David Miller also makes a comeback to the T20I squad, though Ryan Rickelton misses out.
Conrad emphasised that the India tour is crucial for South Africa’s preparations:
“The T20Is will help us finalise our squad for next year’s T20 World Cup in India. These ODI games will also give us clarity as we build towards the 2027 World Cup.”
