Srinagar, 16-10-2024: All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, arrived in Srinagar this morning to participate in the high-profile swearing-in ceremony of Omar Abdullah as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to sources, Rahul and Priyanka landed at the Srinagar Airport at approximately 10:15 a.m. and were warmly welcomed by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, Tariq Hameed Karra. Their presence marks the importance of the event, as they join a host of other dignitaries set to attend the historic occasion.
The oath-taking ceremony, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), will witness Omar Abdullah, the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), being sworn in along with his council of ministers. The oath will be administered by the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge is also expected to be present at the ceremony, further underscoring the significance of this political milestone.
Leaders from the INDIA Bloc, an alliance of opposition parties, have already gathered in Srinagar to attend the event. Sources revealed that following the swearing-in ceremony, Omar Abdullah will proceed to the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, where he will be accorded a guard of honour. In line with customary practices, Abdullah is also expected to address the media to outline his administration’s priorities and vision for the Union Territory.
