Spiritual Zeal Grows as Sadhus Arrive in Jammu for Amarnath Yatra

Ram Mandir emerges as a vibrant hub of devotion and preparation as ascetics from across India arrive weeks before the sacred pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine.

JAMMU, June 15: The spiritual atmosphere in Jammu is steadily intensifying as saints, sadhus and devotees from different parts of the country begin arriving ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra 2026, scheduled to commence on July 3. The historic Ram Mandir in Jammu’s old city has once again transformed into a centre of devotion, hospitality and religious preparation, welcoming pilgrims who are gearing up for the revered journey to the holy cave shrine nestled in the South Kashmir Himalayas.

Although the official pilgrimage is still weeks away, the temple complex is already witnessing a continuous flow of ascetics who have chosen to arrive early. For many, the period before the yatra is devoted to spiritual reflection, prayer, meditation and selfless service. The temple resonates with devotional songs, sacred hymns and chants dedicated to Lord Shiva, creating an atmosphere charged with faith and religious enthusiasm.

Pilgrims and saints staying at the temple spend their days engaging in religious discussions, performing rituals and assisting fellow devotees. The centuries-old tradition of gathering in Jammu before proceeding toward the sacred cave remains an integral part of the pilgrimage experience.

Among those serving at the temple is Amar Dass, a saint from Ayodhya, who arrived several weeks before the commencement of the yatra. Dedicated to helping fellow pilgrims, he actively participates in the management of food distribution and community kitchen services. According to him, serving saints and devotees is a form of worship that brings immense satisfaction and spiritual fulfilment.

A regular participant in the pilgrimage for more than a decade, Dass recalled overcoming serious health challenges to continue his spiritual journey. Despite facing physical difficulties in recent years, his unwavering faith inspired him to undertake the pilgrimage and contribute to community service activities along the route. He described the opportunity to serve devotees as one of the greatest blessings of his life.

The temple has also welcomed experienced pilgrims who have been associated with the sacred journey for decades. Ganesh Puri from Himachal Pradesh expressed confidence that this year’s pilgrimage would be conducted smoothly with comprehensive arrangements in place. He highlighted the importance of cooperation among devotees, authorities and service providers in ensuring a peaceful and successful pilgrimage.

Puri emphasised that the annual journey is not merely a physical trek but a spiritual mission that strengthens faith and unity among devotees from diverse regions and backgrounds. He prayed for the safety and well-being of all pilgrims undertaking the sacred expedition.

For some devotees, however, this year marks the beginning of a new spiritual chapter. Brespati Giri, a Sadhvi from Chhattisgarh, is preparing for her first visit to the holy cave shrine. Filled with enthusiasm and devotion, she described her participation as a divine opportunity made possible through the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Many first-time pilgrims view the journey as a life-changing experience that allows them to deepen their spiritual connection and experience the unique atmosphere associated with one of India’s most revered pilgrimages.

Another spiritual seeker, Bramchari Parth Dev, said his decision to join the pilgrimage emerged while travelling across different parts of the country. Inspired by religious teachings and personal reflection, he felt drawn toward the sacred destination. According to him, faith provides strength and courage, enabling devotees to undertake challenging journeys with confidence and peace of mind.

He explained that saints dedicate their prayers not only to individual spiritual growth but also to the welfare of humanity. Their prayers encompass peace, prosperity, harmony and the well-being of all living beings, reflecting the broader spiritual values associated with the pilgrimage.

Adding to the diversity of participants is Bhairav from Tamil Nadu, who has travelled extensively across India’s major religious centres before arriving in Jammu. For him, the pilgrimage represents a culmination of months of spiritual travel and devotion.

He described the prospect of visiting the holy shrine as a deeply joyful and uplifting experience. His journey has included visits to several prominent pilgrimage destinations, reflecting the interconnected nature of India’s spiritual traditions and sacred geography.

As preparations gather momentum, Ram Mandir continues to play a pivotal role in accommodating and assisting saints arriving from across the country. The temple’s long-standing tradition of serving as a transit centre for pilgrims highlights Jammu’s significance as the gateway to the annual Himalayan pilgrimage.

With security arrangements, logistical planning and pilgrim facilities being strengthened for the upcoming season, anticipation surrounding the sacred journey continues to grow. The arrival of saints and devotees weeks in advance reflects the deep spiritual significance attached to the pilgrimage and underscores the enduring devotion associated with Lord Shiva.

As the countdown to Amarnath Yatra 2026 continues, Jammu is witnessing a renewed wave of faith, devotion and unity, with pilgrims gathering in preparation for one of the country’s most revered spiritual journeys.
