“War Is Not the Answer”: PM Modi Calls for Peaceful Resolution in West Asia and Ukraine Crisis
India and Austria strengthen diplomatic ties while emphasizing global stability, economic cooperation, and peaceful conflict resolution
NEW DELHI, Apr 16: In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underscored the urgent need for the peaceful resolution of global conflicts, particularly in West Asia and Ukraine, during high-level talks with Austria’s Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker in the national capital.
Addressing the media following the bilateral discussions, Modi highlighted the growing global instability and its widespread consequences. He noted that the current international environment remains “serious and tense,” with ripple effects impacting economies, security frameworks, and humanitarian conditions worldwide.
Reiterating India’s long-standing diplomatic stance, the Prime Minister asserted that military confrontation cannot offer lasting solutions to complex geopolitical issues. He emphasized that both India and Austria share a common vision in promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful engagement as the only viable path forward.
“We support a stable, sustainable, and lasting peace in Ukraine and West Asia,” Modi stated, calling for collective global efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore normalcy in conflict-hit regions.
The visit by Chancellor Stocker marks a crucial step in enhancing bilateral relations between India and Austria. Modi expressed optimism that the Austrian leader’s four-day official trip would inject fresh momentum into trade, investment, and technological collaboration between the two nations.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the evolving dynamics of India’s relationship with the European bloc, referencing the progress made following the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. He described it as the beginning of a “new golden chapter” in India-EU ties, opening avenues for deeper economic integration and strategic cooperation.
Chancellor Stocker, who arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, is on his first official visit to India. His itinerary includes discussions on a wide spectrum of sectors, including trade, innovation, climate action, and cultural exchange.
The high-level dialogue reflects a shared commitment between India and Austria to not only strengthen bilateral partnerships but also contribute constructively to global peace and stability at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty.
