ISI-Linked Network Dismantled in Punjab, Investigation Uncovers Several Cells
Punjab Police foil second planned attack, arrests key operatives linked to Gurdaspur grenade incident
Punjab, Dec 02 : The Punjab Police, in coordination with central and state agencies, has busted an ISI-backed network linked to the recent grenade attack on a Gurdaspur police station and suspected of planning additional strikes aimed at triggering communal tensions in the region.
DIG Border Range Sandeep Goyal told ANI that the operation involved support from Delhi Police, Haryana Police, and state intelligence units. Key handlers of the network were identified as Shahzad Bhatti, Zeeshan Akhtar (Jalandhar Rural), and Amandeep Singh Aman Pannu (Gurdaspur).
Planned Attacks and Network Structure
According to officials, the group carried out the grenade attack in Gurdaspur and had planned another strike to sow communal unrest. The network functioned in two operational modules, with police intervening before the second attack could take place.
Arrests and Seizures: Naveen and Kush were arrested, and police recovered two pistols and a P86 Chinese-made hand grenade.
Follow-Up Detentions: Interrogations led to the detention of Gurjeet Singh and Pradeep Singh, while earlier arrests by Delhi Police Hargun and Vijay Prajapati from Gwalior were confirmed as part of the same network.
Authorities also identified a suspect linked to a third module, and further arrests are expected as investigations continue.
Punjab Police said the network’s layered structure and intent to incite communal disharmony underscore the need for continued vigilance and intelligence coordination across states.
