J&K Man Arrested Near Red Fort for Posing as NIA Officer to Scam Job Seekers
Delhi Police foil alleged scam targeting vulnerable families with fake central agency identity.
New Delhi, February 19, 2026: A man from Jammu and Kashmir, identified as Mudassar of Pulwama, was arrested by Delhi Police near Red Fort for allegedly posing as an officer of a central agency and cheating families on the pretext of providing employment, officials said.
Mudassar was intercepted by Kotwali police while patrolling after a suspicious black Hyundai Santro bearing a J&K registration was spotted near Delhi Chalo Park. A minor was also found in the car. Mudassar reportedly produced a forged identity card resembling one issued by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which raised suspicions.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mudassar had targeted economically vulnerable families in J&K, promising jobs in Delhi in exchange for advance payments. He claimed to have arranged employment for the minor accompanying him but failed to provide any proof.
Joint interrogation with the Special Cell, Intelligence Bureau, and the concerned central agency confirmed that the ID card was fake, and no such card had been issued. The accused and the minor were brought to the police station for questioning, and a case has been registered. Further investigation is ongoing.
